The Research and Training Center for Community Development (RTCCD), established in 1998, is a science and technology organization under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA). The RTCCD conducts research, develops community intervention projects, provides capacity building training and supports policy development in the areas of maternal and child health, early childhood development, non-communicable disease prevention and social work. Position: 01 MEDICAL DOCTOR

Project: Enabling Mountainous and Rural Children from Five Provinces in Vietnam to Grow and Thrive (Short name: EM-THRIVE)

Employment Type: Full-time, Long-term Contract

Report to/under supervision of: Project Coordinator & Project Director

 

Background

The EM-THRIVE Project is Phase 4 of the Early Journey of Life Project (2014 – 2023) (https://ejol.vn//). EJOL is a parenting education program focusing on the first 1000 days of the child’s life (from pregnancy to 24 months of age), promoting maternal physical and mental health and child development, and positive parenting skills through behavior-change training classes.

 

The EM-THRIVE Project will run for three years in 5 provinces of  Ha Giang, Soc Trang, Quang Ninh, Binh Thuan and Can Tho. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Provincial TV Stations, the project will adapt parenting education materials and videos from EJOL training programs into local dialects for pregnant women, parents of children from 0 to 5 and expand the training program’s reach to Hmong, Khmer in Ha Giang and Soc Trang. In addition, EM-THRIVE will integrate its implementation with the national immunization program across all communes in the three provinces of Quang Ninh, Binh Thuan, and Can Tho City.

 

Job Description

The Medical doctor will work as a Medical Officer will play a pivotal role in providing technical content feedback, training, supervision, and reporting. Key responsibilities include:

• Audit Intervention Materials: Review intervention materials through a medical lens to ensure accuracy.
• Training Delivery: Conduct training sessions for provincial and communal health workers on early childhood development and reproductive healthcare.
• First Aid Training: Provide First Aid training and coaching to health workers and parents.
• Supervision and Support: Supervise and offer technical support to local health workers during project implementation.
• Data Collection: Gather simple data to support the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) officer in reporting.
• Financial Support: Assist in the financial distribution and receipt collection process to aid the accountant in completing financial paperwork.
• In addition, the medical doctor will have the opportunity to collaborate with the psychology team and the non-communicable diseases team in child assessments and kindergarten teacher training.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

• Nationality: Vietnamese
• Qualification: Medical degree, preferably as a general doctor or pediatrician.
• Fluently in English (spoken and written).
• Strong teamwork, work independently, problem solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and travel to project sites across provinces.
