Training on Child Injury and Child Maltreatment Prevention in Hue

During two days, 25th and 26th of July 2015, Thua Thien Hue Association for Protection of Children’s Rights in cooperation with Research and Training Centre for Community Development (RTCCD) organized a training course on “Child Injury and Child Maltreatment Prevention” for more than 40 socio-cultural officers, association members and staffs from different wards in the city.

The objectives of the training course were to raise trainees’ awareness of child injury and child abuse situation in Vietnam as well as to provide knowledge and practical skills to enhancing protecting, caring for children and ensuring children’s rights. The main contents discussed in the training course include:

  • Child Injury in Vietnam: Situation and Solutions
  • Drowning Prevention for Children – Lifesaving methods
  • Choking Prevention for Children and First-aid
  • Burn Safety for Children and building “Safety House” model in preventing child injury
  • Overview of the current situation of violence against children and child abuse in Vietnam and the intervention process according to 23/LĐTBXH circular
  • Prevention of child sexual abuse
  • The role of the association’s collaborators in preventing violence against children and child abuse based on the actual condition in Thua Thien Hue.

Through the session, many situations involving child injuries or child abuse in the communities as well as in other provinces were heatedly discussed. After the training program, the association understands that their role – as an independent supervisor of children’s rights must be promoted further by acting jointly and guiding the community to perform. Lecturer of the training course are Dr. MSc. Nguyen Trong An, Deputy Director of RTCCD, senior expert on child protection and MSc. Nguyen Thi Van Mai, lecturer of Social Work SWPDC group.
