From August 13 – 14, 2014, RTCCD in partnership with Department of Labor, Invalid and Social Affair (DOLISA) in Bac Ninh province conducted a training course in child protection. 80 social workers who are currently working for Commune Health Station, Women’s Union, Youths Union and Commune People’s Committees in Bac Ninh provinces took part in the training.
Trainer of the training is Dr. Nguyễn Trọng An – Senior Expert in Child Care and Protection, Deputy Director of RTCCD. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Anh Nguyet and Mr. Vo Xuan Hoa played the role as training assistant.
Most of the participants confirmed that this is the first time they have opportunity to study about child protection. They found that the training course is very helpful for their work in assisting vulnerable children at their villages.
All of the participants stated that the training contents are very helpful and applicable to their work. The following are contents that the participants found the most useful for their work: Legal information on child protection; Communication skills and Counseling on Child protection; Discussion on how to help vulnerable children to access to social services
Beside the content of the training, the participants would like to learn more on other areas that helpful for their work are:
– Policies and legal documents on community based child protection. (83.9%)
– Skills in working with vulnerable children (93.5%)
– How to protect and care for children living with HIV, children with disability, children affected by domestic violence. (67.7%)
– Alternative care, foster care (45.2%)
For the question “what are your suggestions for the next training course?”
All of the respondents confirmed that the training course is very informative and helpful, and they wish to have more training courses in child protection for other para-social workers at Băc Ninh.
70.4% of the respondents suggested organizing some more training courses in foster care, kinship-care for para-social workers who are working for Youth’s Union, Women’s Union, and School Parents’ Association at grassroots level.
The training participants also expressed their gratitude to Department of Child Protection and Care at DOLISA of Bac Ninh province, HealthRight International and RTCCD for the useful training course.
