From 19 to 24 January 2026, the Research and Training Centre for Community Development (RTCCD), in collaboration with the Tuyen Quang Provincial Department of Health, organized two training courses for 40 Commune Health Workers from four communes: Meo Vac, Dong Van, Quan Ba, and Yen Minh on the programme “Promoting the holistic development of children through training in positive parenting skills in five provinces and cities of Vietnam” (EM-THRIVE).
The provincial trainers assigned by the Department of Health were experienced instructors including paediatric specialists, officers from the Department of Health, and staff from the Centre for Disease Control. Accompanying the provincial trainers was Dr. Le Duc Duy (national trainer from the Ministry of Health) from RTCCD to support the provincial trainers in delivering knowledge and guiding practical exercises effectively.
The training courses were held at Meo Vac Commune Health Centre (for participants from Meo Vac and Dong Van communes) from 19–21 January 2026 and at Quan Ba Commune Health Centre (for participants from Quan Ba and Yen Minh communes) from 22–24 January 2026. Over the three days, the Commune Health Workers received theoretical instruction and practical guidance, and 100% of the health workers directly conducted teaching demonstrations under the supervision of provincial trainers.
The courses were evaluated using a pre-training test before the sessions and a post-training test after completion. Participants were very enthusiastic about the 12 programme topics, with the first aid content being rated as the most engaging by both the Commune Health Workers and ethnic minority community members.
At the end of the training courses, 20 Commune health stations were provided with kits to implement the programme with caregivers at their own health stations. The programme will continue to support health workers with supervision at the stations as the communes begin to roll out the programme.
