About us

Social Work Professional Development Centre (SWPDC) is a not-for-profit training centre jointly established by HealthRight International and the Research and Training Centre for Community Development (RTCCD). SWPDC designs, develops and delivers professional pre- and in-service Social Work training programs.

SWPDC aims to build the capacity of the Social Work profession to provide effective services of social support and rehabilitation to persons with disabilities, children who suffer from violence, exploitation and abuse, and other vulnerable groups in the society.

What services do SWPDC deliver?

Short training courses to develop social work skills

SWPDC delivers free training modules (1-3 days/course) to social work staff and collaborators who are working in State agencies, social work providers, social organizations, lecturers and students of universities, NGOs, and private enterprises to ensure high-quality social work services in line with the national standards.

Since 2012, SWPDC has designed and provided various training courses in Ha Noi, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Quang Nam, and Ben Tre.

Training modules included:

  • Social work in child protection
  • Child abuse and impact of abuse on children
  • Case management
  • ToT training: Foster care – Social workers
  • ToT training: Foster care – Potential parents
  • Domestic violence
  • Assessment on mental disorders in women and children
  • Social work for children who have parents with mental illness
  • Confidentiality and professional boundaries in social work
  • Prevention of child accidents and injuries
  • Self-care for persons with caring responsibilities
  • Crisis prevention and management in health care centers
  • Social work practice with professional supervision and guidance

Social work students placement supervision

SWPDC provides guidance and supervision to social work students (both graduate and postgraduate levels) in the areas of child protection, case assessment in alternative care, designing and conducting social researches, case assessment and management regarding mental disorders and domestic violence and other areas relevant to social work.

Support in assessment of particular cases

SWPDC offers support to local and international organizations by investigating cases in child protection, conducting family assessments (for the purpose of alternative care, foster care or adoption). SWPDC also offers specialist support for interventions on prevention and control of domestic violence, child abuse, child trafficking and other relevant areas in social work in Vietnam.

How to contact SWPDC?

Individuals: Please check our quarterly plan for training courses on SWPDC’s website and then contact us directly via email or phone for further information. We will offer you a place in a course of your choice.

Organizations: SWPDC Local partners who require training for their social workers, please submit SWPDC a proposal with information on required training modules, expected schedule and the number of participants.
