Non-communicable disease prevention in 2022

Vietnam Technical Working Group of Non-communicable Disease Prevention (NCDs-VN), which RTCCD coordinates, greatly contributed to the process of advocating for NCDs prevention in 2022:

• NCDs-VN recommendations were acknowledged and added to the Amended Law on Medical Examination and Treatment;
• Total 12 live-stream webinars and talk shows on NCD prevention with nearly 6000 people interested and discussing together;
• An online course on early alcohol harm prevention for children was developed and launched on the website “Early Journey of Life” of the parenting education e-learning platform with a 92% of completion rate.

Strategies in the next 5 years:

• Continue advocating for the Law on Excise Tax to increase the excise tax rate on tobacco, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages;
• More focus on further research to generate evidence for policymakers and advocates for NCDs prevention policies;
• Enhance capacity building for CSOs working on NCD prevention;
• Emphasize youth empowerment by engaging and empowering them to advocate for NCD prevention, tackling high-risk factors: alcohol, tobacco and sugar-sweetened beverages.
