From November 26–28, 2025, under the project “Promoting Early Childhood Development Through Positive Parenting Skills Training,” the Lam Dong Center for Disease Control (CDC) conducted its second training course for commune and ward health workers at the Phan Thiet Regional Medical Center.
The training course featured a team of lecturers including doctors, master’s degree holders, and PhDs from Lam Dong CDC and the Phan Thiet Regional Medical Center. With strong professional expertise and extensive practical experience, the lecturers ensured that the course was standardized, practical, and well-suited for implementation at the grassroots level.
In addition, RTCCD assigned a staff member to conduct supervision and technical support to ensure smooth implementation, on-time progress, and high training quality.
A total of 34 health workers participated in the course, including Heads/Deputy Heads of Commune Health Stations, Reproductive Health staff, and Immunization staff from 15 health stations in the area.
During the opening session, Dr. Che Ngoc Thach emphasized:
“This course has been carefully designed and well-invested, equipped with full practical tools such as instructional video clips, infant care and CPR practice models, and diverse developmental toys for children aged 0–5. These materials allow trainees to master both theory and hands-on skills.”
Throughout the three-day course, trainees participated in a wide range of practical activities, including:
First aid techniques and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Safe and proper infant bathing procedures
Practicing positive play and interaction skills with children through role-play and simulations
Practicing how to organize a Positive Parenting Skills Session integrated into Expanded Immunization Program (EIP) visits at Commune Health Stations
The training atmosphere remained vibrant, with active participation from trainees during hands-on modules. These practical exercises helped the trainees build confidence to apply the techniques immediately upon returning to their health stations.
Many trainees shared that the course provided highly practical knowledge and skills that are easy to apply both in their professional roles and in their own families. Some notable reflections included:
“At first it seemed difficult, but the more we learned, the more interesting and engaging it became.”
“These skills can be applied immediately to care for our own children and to better support parents in our community.”
“This training is different from previous ones because we had to do a lot of role-play and hands-on practice. I was nervous at first, but thanks to practicing directly and receiving feedback from classmates and lecturers, I now understand better how to guide, interact, observe, and respond effectively to grandparents and parents. I feel much more confident.”
These reflections demonstrate that the program not only enhances professional skills but also strengthens the trainees’ ability to conduct Positive Parenting Skills Practice Sessions at the commune/ward level.
The second training course in Phan Thiet concluded successfully, marking another important milestone in strengthening the capacity of grassroots health workers. This activity contributes meaningfully to the goals of the EM-THRIVE project, improving childcare, nutrition, and child protection practices—supporting the holistic development of young children during the first 2,000 days of life in Lam Dong Province.
