July 9, 2018 RTCCD Center; The Department of Health, Ha Nam Provincial Center for Disease Control organized a workshop on “Implementation of the first 1,000-day intervention program”. The workshop was attended by more than 100 delegates representing the departments of Ha Nam province: Provincial People’s Committee, Department of Education and Training, Women’s Union and Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Diseases Ha Nam provincial institute; and 42 commune intervention staff: Commune People’s Committee staff, Health Station, Women’s Union and Commune Preschool Teachers. The seminar aimed to introduce the intervention model and agree on the operation of the club in the commune.
Opening the seminar, Deputy Director of Health Department of BS. Van Tat Pham raised the difficulties and challenges of Ha Nam province in the past years in the field of Health, especially in the health care for mothers and children in the province. Thereby introducing the achievements of the intervention model “The first 1,000-day club” will be deployed in 42 communes to solve local difficulties and limitations. Leaders of Department of Health suggest departments and agencies commit to implement well so that the living model can be effective and continue to expand in the province.
Representing the main research team and technical consultant, Mr. Tran Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of the Center introduced the idea of the Club model originating from projects implemented in Ha Nam – where early-life care is still limited as parents who lack child care skills, abuse of antibiotics, caesarean section, low breastfeeding rates, lack of psychological care for women before and after birth. The research team noted the achievements of the Club model implemented in Phase 1 (2013-2015) with great efforts of the Women’s Union. The model has been successfully developed and implemented, attracting 2,019 women to participate and bring to the project to expand in 42 communes. Phase 2 implementation will be based on the adjustment of phase 1 with the support of the advisory group of the Ministry of Health, a set of well-designed documents, executive staff with additional support from the Health Station and Preschool teachers. With the commitment of the participants, the research team believes that the Club model will deploy successfully and continue to be expanded throughout the province and sustainably.
The Board of Directors of CDC Center pledged to take charge of and coordinate the implementation of the two activities simultaneously, to evaluate and maintain the implementation of the Club model. With the support from the Provincial People’s Committee and leaders of departments and agencies, CDC Center will advise the Provincial People’s Committee to have official dispatch to communes to support the Club to be deployed smoothly.
After the discussion, the seminar came to an important agreement in structure, maintaining sustainable Club implementation and ensuring security. Participants agreed to let the health station staff take the leading role, making the most of available equipment and appropriate locations in the locality for club activities every Sunday.
Recognizing that the contribution of the intervention model to the younger generation of Ha Nam is not only in the target group of this phase 2 project but also in the future, the participants of the Workshop are committed to maintain Live the Club according to plan, achieve achievements to prepare for expansion into Stage 3 after the project ends.
