Health care for pregnant women and child care in the first two years of life plays a crucial role in the children’s physical, intellectual, emotional development, mental health and personality in later life. Training course 6 titled “Helping your child to develop necessary skills”, which completed the 24 topics on proper child care in the first 24 months of life, was conducted on January 28th – 30th, 2015 in Ha Nam Province by the Project on Learning Clubs for Women’s Health and Infant Development in Rural Vietnam” in collaboration with Ha Nam Provincial Women’s Union.

This course provided participants with the following knowledge:
• Stimulating language development for children at 13-24 months of age
• Stimulating emotional development and social interaction for children at 13-24 months of age
• Stimulating motor skills and self-care skills for children at 13-24 months of age
• Stimulating intellectual and cognitive development for children at 13-24 months of age
• Child injury prevention
• Anorexia childcare

Dr. Nguyen Trong An – Former Director of the National Programme for Child Injury Prevention was one of the lectures of this course. Not only providing information about 12 principles of a safe house, Dr. An also directly instructed important first aid skills for airway obstruction (Heimlich Maneuver), burns, electric shock, and drowning.

Besides, MPH. Tran Thi Thu Ha – Deputy Director of the Research and Training Centre for Community Development provided guidance on home visits for club facilitators of the 3 communes in order to support local families to change their behavior in healthcare for children and women during pregnancy and postpartum, collect opinions on club operation for improvement and encourage public participation.

After taking 6 training courses, club facilitators were equipped with scientific, practical and useful knowledge together with essential skills to operate the clubs effectively; thereby bringing opportunities for children in Ha Nam to receive proper care, love and support of the family and community.
