Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam –Australia Friendship Association 2024
On February 29, 2024, a member of the RTCCD, also a former student of the University of Melbourne, Australia, participated in the meeting of the central executive committee of the Vietnam – Australia Friendship Association. Professor Nguyen Ngoc Hung – Vice Chairman, Secretary-General of the Association reported on the activities from 2016-2021 and outlined the plans for 2024-2029. The Chairman of the Association – Professor Tran Van Nhung, agreed on the need to promptly strengthen the personnel of the Vietnam – Australia Friendship Association’s Executive Committee, promoting non-government activities to enhance the relationship between Vietnam and Australia through visits, research, projects, and cultural exchange events.
Currently, there are about 30,000 Vietnamese students studying in Australia, of which only a few hundred are scholarship recipients, and approximately 256,000 Vietnamese people are residing in Australia (figures provided by Professor Nguyen Ngoc Hung).
Strategies of the period 2024-2029 is drafted as follows:
- Strengthening the structure of the central executive committee for the new term: electing the chairman for the term 2024 – 2029, establishing a finance division and a fundraising division, increasing the number and updating the personnel information of the executive committee, and fostering relationships with sub-national associations.
- Establishing a database system for alumni and their working organizations.
- Developing action plans for 2024-2029.
- Organizing the new term conference.
- Enhancing online activities to share information about the Association’s events and member organizations on the Association’s system and Australian embassies.
- Organizing events to commemorate major Australian holidays and significant events between the two countries.
The meeting emphasized the need for participation from alumni-led organizations in the Association’s activities to elevate the relationship between Vietnam and Australia.
RTCCD currently has 10 staff members who have been studying in Australia. RTCCD has been in collaboration with Monash University, the University of Melbourne, and the University of Queensland to carry out approximately 15 research and projects over the past 20 years. RTCCD will actively participate to further promote the Vietnam – Australia relationship through research and project cooperation.
