General Information

OneSky is a non-government organization with 20 years of experience working to improve the quality of care for vulnerable children in South East Asia. In Vietnam, working with the Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education and Training, OneSky is implementing training to Home Based Care providers operating in the industrialized zones of the country. Home Based Cares are private day cares and are often the only option of childcare available for families migrating to the industrialized zones to work in factories. The professional development training offered by OneSky is designed to improve the knowledge and competencies of Home Based Care providers in order to improve the quality care young children receive thereby benefiting their development.

OneSky has invited the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health with a local research partner in Vietnam, Research and Training Center for Community Development, to conduct an independent evaluation of the training.
Research Sites and Population

The research will be implemented in 480 HBC providers in the industrialized zones of Da Nang province and in Quang Nam province.

Research Aims
• Aim 1: To evaluate the effects of the OneSky HBC provider training programme in the short and medium term post-training on the knowledge and competencies of the HBC providers and on the quality of the HBC.
o Aim 1.1: To evaluate the effects of the OneSky HBC provider training programme in the short and medium term on the early development of children who attend the HBC.
o Aim 1.2: To evaluate the factors pertaining to HBC services that contribute to children’s early development.

Aim 2: To examine the implementation quality, and any barriers and facilitators, of the OneSky HBC provider training programme.

Result: Research is now ongoing
