On April 12, the “Parent–Child Bonding Day” program was organized at Sunjade Vietnam Shoes Co., Ltd.. The event was jointly implemented by the Research and Training Centre for Community Development (RTCCD), the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, and the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labour.

The program is part of the No-VAC project funded by the United Nations Foundation and the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

1

The event welcomed the participation of more than 100 children and adolescents aged 10–18 together with their parents, who are workers at the Sunjade Vietnam shoe factory in Thanh Hoa Province.

Understanding invisible pressures

6

Through lively group activities, participating families not only gained useful knowledge but also had the opportunity to listen to experts sharing experiences and perspectives on family relationships and emotional wellbeing. In particular, activities encouraging family members to write down the difficulties and pressures they face in daily life created valuable opportunities for empathy, understanding, and emotional connection.

3

Love begins with understanding. For adolescents experiencing significant emotional and psychological changes, communication gaps and emotional distance from parents can sometimes become difficult barriers. Through the program, families learned to better understand not only their own emotions but also the feelings of their loved ones. For many participants, this was also the first time they openly expressed the invisible pressures faced by family members in everyday life.

4

A warm hug speaks louder than words

As part of the program, children and parents also explored the concept of the “Five Love Languages” and learned different ways to express love and care toward family members. One important form of emotional connection highlighted during the activities was physical affection and emotional closeness.

2

A comforting touch or a warm hug from a mother can provide reassurance, emotional support, and a sense of safety. These small yet meaningful gestures of encouragement can become important sources of confidence and strength for young people as they grow and navigate life’s challenges.

 Because family is everything

7

Throughout every stage of a child’s development, family is where love begins and where children find support during life’s many transitions. However, the growing pressures and busyness of modern life can gradually widen the emotional distance between parents and children, leaving families with limited time to talk, listen, and truly understand one another.

8

As the “Parent–Child Bonding Day” at Sunjade Vietnam Factory—and other factories in Thanh Hoa Province—came to a close, what remained was not only meaningful experiences or heartfelt handwritten letters exchanged between parents and children, but also a powerful message: “Family is everything.”

Through simple yet sincere moments shared during the program, love was expressed more openly, connections grew stronger, and families were reminded that home is always a place of love, belonging, and support—a foundation that helps each person move forward with confidence through every journey in life.
